Ingrown hair: Treatment and prevention

ingrown hair on balls

Squeezing an ingrown hair will increase the risk of infection. If an infection is present, squeezing the bump may worsen it. Preventing ingrown hairs can decrease your risk of related infections. A doctor will usually assess an ingrown hair infection by looking at the symptoms and asking about your medical history. You may be able to get an idea of the type of ingrown hair cyst you're dealing with depending on where it is located on the body and what it looks like.

How can I prevent ingrown hair?

If a person develops an infection, they should contact a healthcare professional for treatment. Over time, an ingrown hair may develop into a cyst — a sac of fluid beneath the skin. If there is no infection present, and the skin has simply trapped the ingrown hair, a person can use a gentle exfoliating scrub to release the hair. If bacteria or other pathogens enter the skin, an infection can develop, leading to a painful bump. These usually resolve with good hygiene after a few days.

Sometimes, the hair is blocked or grows in an unusual direction. It may have difficulty getting through your skin’s surface. An ingrown hair is a common cause of red, tender bumps in your genital area. Razor burn, an uncomfortable skin irritation that can happen after you shave, may also cause small bumps and blisters in the genital area.

Improper hair removal

Many ingrown hairs will clear up on their own without becoming infected. People with high levels of certain sex hormones can have more hair than usual. This can make you more likely to get ingrown hairs, especially after shaving. If the hair is trapped beneath a layer of skin, consider using a gentle loofah or a body scrub to remove the top-most layer of the skin. This will help create a clear path for your hair to grow. Another treatment option is to apply a warm compress to your scrotum a few times a day.

Prescription medications

Doctors can use sterile needles to scrape or release the hair embedded into the skin, or you might be prescribed Retinoids to remove dead skin cells. An ingrown hair from shaving can cause swelling and lead to skin irritation causing bumps on your skin. When hair follicles are damaged, they may be invaded by viruses, bacteria and fungi. Superficial folliculitis affects the upper part of the hair follicle and the skin around the follicle.

However, they often go away by themselves, and people can speed up the process by using warm compresses and gently exfoliating the area. However, people may find relief from symptoms by applying a warm compress 3–4 times a day for up to 20 minutes each time. As these nodules are cosmetic, doctors will only recommend surgery if they severely affect a person’s life. People should not try to pop pimples, as this can lead to scarring. Treating the skin with a warm, damp cloth a few times a day can soften the skin and better allow the trapped hair to breach the surface.

In some cases, the hair can be seen growing under the surface of the skin. Preventing ingrown hairs can often be managed at home, though there are times when a visit to the doctor may be appropriate. Thus, there are various home remedies for ingrown hair treatment. In extreme cases, these infections may turn into a Staphylococcus infection within an ingrown hair. It can cause pus and boils when the bacterium staph penetrates the skin.

What treatment options are available?

Ingrown hairs develop when the hair grows back into the skin rather than straight up, resulting in a painful, red bump. An infected ingrown hair can develop into a boil, which is a painful, pus filled lump on the skin. Untreated boils may require professional medical treatment and can leave dark scars on the skin. If a person finds ingrown hairs particularly bothersome, they may wish to consider laser hair removal. As this procedure destroys the hair follicles, it is the most effective way to prevent ingrown hairs. Many people call these bumps razor bumps or razor burn, and their medical name is pseudofolliculitis.

Treatment for an ingrown hair

It is important to contact a doctor if an ingrown hair does not resolve itself and becomes very painful. However, immunocompromised people, such as those living with HIV, or those who have contracted a severe infection, may need medical treatment. In severe cases, a doctor can prescribe medications to treat pimples. If the ingrown hair is accessible, use clean tweezers to gently pull it out of the skin. Only attempt this if the hair has exited the skin and is growing outward again, giving you an end to grab.

If you use a men’s face scrub as part of your regular routine, then you probably already know the vast benefits of exfoliation. Exfoliating your skin will help remove the buildup of dead skin cells and oil, which allows a better path for the hair to grow. You can try to pluck the hair if the ingrown hair is visible.

Genital herpes is a common sexually transmitted infection that may result from the herpes simplex virus type 1 or type 2. Sometimes, what appears to be an ingrown hair on the scrotum can be one of several other conditions. If the ingrown hair has an infection, the skin may appear raised and red around the hair and present with a white head.

Ingrown Hair: Causes, Symptoms, Treatments, and Infections

White spots that appear on your testicles aren’t always a cause for concern. If your symptoms last longer than a week or two, see a doctor or other healthcare professional for a diagnosis. You can help heal most pimples by applying benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to the affected area.

How to Treat an Ingrown Hair Cyst

The best defense against uncomfortable ingrown hairs on your scrotum or pubic area is better grooming habits. Hair removal is the most common cause of ingrown hairs on the scrotum area or anywhere else. Infected ingrown hairs can be uncomfortable, but most clear up on their own in 7–10 days with good hygiene. When new hair forms, if the hair follicle is closed up, hair can't grow out of the follicle and through the skin. Friction caused by wearing tight clothing for extended periods of time can also cause ingrown hairs.

Prevention

Some people may not have any symptoms of an ingrown hair, whereas others may find the area itchy and painful. If an ingrown hair is not due to an infection, people may be able to see the hairs under a thin layer of skin. Ingrown hairs are a result of damage to the hair follicles. Also make an appointment to see your doctor if the bump grows larger over time, or you suspect you have genital warts or genital herpes.

How can I prevent ingrown hair?

Infections can develop around the ingrown hair, causing pus formation, discoloration and pain, though. If you see signs of infection, you should visit your healthcare provider. The best way to prevent ingrown hairs is to avoid shaving and waxing. If a person wants to remove hair, it may help to switch to a hair removal cream or laser treatment. This article explains what an ingrown hair cyst looks like and why these bumps form.

They can be small, swollen bumps where you shave, tweeze, or wax. Ingrown hairs on the scrotum are about as much fun as a root canal. Luckily, they’re fairly easy to treat and can mostly be avoided by adjusting your grooming routine. The results of electrolysis and laser hair removal are immediate. For mild cases of folliculitis, a doctor may recommend a short course of oral antibiotics and a cleanser, such as Hibiclens or a benzoyl peroxide wash.

Your doctor may do a full STI-screening test to rule out other possible causes. If these results come back negative, your doctor may look for other possible explanations. These include an ingrown hair, blocked oil glands, and cysts. One ingrown hair may form a cyst — a red, yellow, or whitish lump beneath the skin.

Ingrown Hair Symptoms

An infected ingrown hair — also known as folliculitis — typically looks like a bump, a hard lump, or a cyst under the skin. If the cyst looks infected or didn't go away after you tried at-home treatment, see a healthcare provider. They can give you antibiotics and other treatments to keep the infection from spreading and prevent scarring.

If your condition doesn’t improve within a week, talk with a healthcare professional. They may recommend prescription antibiotics, such as cephalexin (Keflex) or doxycycline (Vibramycin). Pimples develop when dead tissue or oil gets stuck in your pores, causing a blockage. This allows bacteria to grow and fill the pore with infected pus. Infected pus is what makes the head of a pimple appear white.

Individuals who get ingrown hairs on their necks from shaving may switch to trimming instead. Problematic pubic hairs can be cut short instead of removed entirely to help prevent ingrown hairs. There are also a few products and treatments available to prevent these ingrown hairs.

If the infection is deeper, such as in the case of a furuncle, then incision and drainage may be necessary in addition to the antibiotics. STIs can lead to long-term complications if left untreated, so it’s important to get medical attention if you suspect this to be the cause. Although folliculitis can be itchy, it usually isn’t harmful unless it results from an infection that goes untreated. Sometimes, these common bumps can be difficult to distinguish, even by trained medical professionals. They may use one or more medical tests to make a diagnosis.

It might be possible to see the hair trapped within the skin. This article explains how ingrown pubic hair cysts form, how to identify and prevent them, and when to contact a doctor. The American Academy of Dermatology recommend people stop shaving, plucking, or waxing for 30 days if they cause ingrown hairs. Never pick or pop an infected ingrown hair, as this also increases the risk of complications. Keep reading to learn how to recognize an infected ingrown hair, as well as tips for treating and preventing them. Home remedies can often treat ingrown hairs, even if the affected area becomes infected.

People who experience ingrown hair over large areas may require medical treatment as well. Infected ingrown hairs, when left untreated, can lead to further bacterial or fungal infection. Severe infections can lead to the formation of painful and large genital boils or swollen lymph nodes. Severe infections can also cause the pubic and groin area to develop dark or raised scars.

The most common symptom of an ingrown hair is redness and inflammation of the skin. However, each individual may experience symptoms differently. The symptoms of an ingrown hair may resemble other skin conditions. Always talk with your healthcare provider for a diagnosis.

Use the pencil to create your desired brow shape by making light, feathered strokes that define your brows. Should Eyebrows Be Lighter Than Hare?

A few extra seconds spent brushing your brows can make all the difference in whether or not you’re left with a natural-looking brow. "Clear versions can be used to just hold brows in place without adding color for a low-maintenance look," concludes Hernandez. Tints and pomades, on the other hand, "are perfect for newbies looking for lighter or darker brows." Layer up on the bleach-blonde color by pairing your bleached brows with bleach-blonde bangs. Anytime you bleach your hair, it’s important to adjust your hair care routine to maintain the integrity of your strands. This is even more true for an overall bleached look that affects your entire head of hair, from the bangs to the ends.

Alternatives to Makeup

When applying eyebrow dye, make sure to work it into the root of the eyebrow hairs, as this will ensure an even color and avoid skin irritation. After you’ve completed the process, wipe your eyebrows with a cleanser or lotion. Colored eyebrows should be checked about seven to 15 days later to ensure evenness.

Why Do People With Blonde Hair Have Black Eyebrows?

However, if your hair color is light or neutral, you can add more depth to your eyebrows by using eyebrow pencils of a deeper shade. Blondes should consider wearing darker eyebrows to give themselves a bold look. However, it’s important to choose the right shade to avoid looking too harsh. If you are a light blonde, a shade of brown will probably look too dark and unnatural.

This is especially important if you have permanent hair dye, as they can singe hairs. Your eyebrows should be a shade or two lighter than your hair color, so that they complement your hair color. Don’t go too light or too dark, as matching them too closely can look fake.

This first look is a perfect way to add an extra touch of edge to your look. Silvery blonde hues pair well with bleached brows for a doubly cool vibe. Otherwise, if you’re extravagant enough, you can lighten your brows to dye them a bright color afterward. The best makeup for blonde eyebrows depends heavily on preference. Try different combinations of products to find out what works best for you.

That is why your eyebrows look darker than your hair’s natural color. The biggest reason I can think of is that blonde hair tends to curl up more easily, and looks more unnatural with long hair, than black does. And I have yet to see a black hairstyle that is perfect for curly hair. "Brow henna is a type of non-oxidative tint that temporarily tints the skin under the brows as well as the actual brow hairs to give a fuller look," she explains. Amy Clark of Rob Peetoom Salon New York says to make sure the shade of your brows compliments the tones in your hair color. "My general rule would be to keep it as close to the shade of your hair as best as possible, or one shade darker," she says.

Medium and dark blondes should opt for shades of taupe and neutral brown. Blondes often struggle with barely visible eyebrows, which is why darker eyebrows can enhance their features. As a general rule, blondes should choose a darker shade of eyebrow pencil than their hair, ideally one to two shades darker.

When I first went blonde, I did a double take every single time I looked in the mirror for about two weeks. As a woman whose natural eyebrows could be best described as translucent, I understand the magical powers of darker eyebrows better than most. My makeup looked instantly better, and my face appeared more symmetrical. Those newly tinted brows were transformative for my entire face.

Expensive Products Moms Say are Worth the Money

People who have naturally dark eyebrows are probably more likely to have lighter shades, because their hair is darker than the average person, which causes their hair to curl up a little. Even though black people don’t have these pigmentation problems, they are still very visible when they use strong hair colors such as black or dark blondes for women. For men, the typical looks for them are usually to have black eyebrows which are more prominent than their hair. While it may be tempting to match eyebrows to your hair color, it’s important to remember that it won’t look good on every woman. Similarly, it’s important to match foundation or a tinted moisturizer to your skin tone. In addition, it’s best to have a slight contrast between your eyebrows and hair color, as this will frame your face and draw attention to your eyes.

Simply apply the pigment to your brow hair, wait for two hours, then peel off the film. For a more natural look, however, you can use a brow pencil, which will draw in single hairs to give you fuller brows while keeping them looking natural. A touch of black in the eyebrows can give your blonde look a touch of ethereality. If you have naturally light eyebrows, you might consider bleaching them a few shades lighter. Bleaching can lighten eyebrows a great deal, and it is one of the easiest ways to get rid of that annoying wire-haired look. “More often than not, natural redheads don’t have red eyebrows, so matching your brows to your hair color is unnecessary,” says Friedman. Those with a hue that’s more pumpkin than burgundy will be best suited by arches with the smallest hint of copper.

When you're so focused on switching up your hair color, it's easy to overlook your eyebrows, but it's equally important that the shade of your brows also compliments your new dye job. For example, if you have fuller brows, you can just grab an eyebrow pencil. "A very fine pencil can be used sparingly to add the appearance of tiny natural brush strokes in areas that are patchy," Hernandez says.

My husband is Caucasian (hazel bluegreen eyes, light brown hair now but blonde when he was a baby). For beginners, you can apply a shade of dark eyebrows in small increments. After the process, you should check your result, and apply more if necessary. If your eyebrows are not an even shade, you can reapply it locally. If you choose to go with a wig rather than wearing a pair of false, black eyebrows, you can easily make your eyebrows look as if they are black by purchasing a wig that is black in color. It heats up in just over 60 seconds to a single heat setting of 380 degrees, which is hot enough to shape hair into super straight strands or perfectly imperfect flatiron waves. After decades of use, in 2022, a study in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute found a positive correlation between use of chemical hair straighteners and diagnoses of uterine cancer. People who used hair relaxers more than four times a year were more than twice as likely to develop uterine cancer as people who never used chemical straighteners. In 2023, a 25-year study was released that supported the connection between the use of chemical hair relaxers and uterine cancer. Winter is a great time to explore heat styles, be they flat-ironed looks or voluminous blowouts. Accordingly, you’re probably on the lookout for the next best hair straightener to take yours to the next level.

Best Hair Straighteners in 2024, Reviewed by Allure Editors

Wider plates are bulkier and increase the chances of accidentally clamping the same sections of hair multiple times, and the chance of warping, such that the plates don’t meet evenly across the whole surface. Plus, they’re not great for people with curly or textured hair, who need to focus on small sections of hair at a time, or people with short hair. Likewise, we aimed for straighteners with plates on the long side, but not so long the straightener wouldn’t be maneuverable. This tool was best for creating smooth, sleek styles, which it executed in just one to two passes.

Best Customizable: T3 Smooth ID Flatiron

Chemical hair relaxers contain ingredients that are known to be endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs). This can lead to a number of health risks, including reproductive cancers. We may earn commission from links on this page, but we only recommend products we love. For every hair type, budget, and preference (yeah, I really did that for you).

The ceramic hair straightener: Pros and cons

ceramic hair straightener

Improper use, like using a temperature too high for your hair type, can cause damage, according to our experts. “Hair is a fabric and, like any material, heat can deteriorate and break down the hair structure,” says Hill. The cuticle — the outer layer of a hair strand — can very easily become damaged by heat over 356 degrees Fahrenheit, experts told us. Damaging that cuticle layer will make your hair more porous, which means it will struggle to hold on to moisture, causing dryness and breakage. Jones-Muñoz calls this flat iron a “workhorse” and says he likes using it at his salon because of  its thick, durable plates.

The one negative I found with the SinglePass StyleMax, however, is that inputting your hair type or manually selecting a heat setting isn’t immediately intuitive and requires a small learning curve. The Chi Original Ceramic Hairstyling Iron is my top value pick because of its no-nonsense performance, versatility and ability to create sleek, silky hair with fewer passes. (Read my in-depth review of the Chi straightener here.) Below are the best hair straightener winners from my long-term testing. You can also scroll down to learn more about the other flat irons I tested.

Looks you can create with a simple hair straightener

The benefit of cordless straighteners is that you don’t have to be bound by proximity to an outlet or a cumbersome cord that gets in the way while styling. But typically, the drawback to cordless flat irons is that they have limited usage time on one charge (for instance, the GHD version has only 20 minutes and the Dyson Corrale has 30 minutes). The Lunata Cordless Styler Pro is the exception, providing up to 60 minutes of styling time on one charge—and it can be used while charging, unlike the GHD. I have long hair that can take extra time to smooth, and I sometimes apply makeup in between styling my hair, so I appreciate the extended charge and not having to rush. The unique shape of the rounded-edge barrel allowed me to create straight styles, loose waves or curls easily, without creases. Other nice-to-have features include a 360-degree swivel cord and universal voltage to allow for international use.

“Ceramic irons take longer to heat up and they heat the hair from the inside, [while] titanium heats up immediately and heats the hair on the surface,” explains Parker. “Straightening hair from the inside is better than heating the hair shaft.” According to her, which option you should choose is based on your hair type and desired look. “If your hair is soft, smooth, and easy to flat iron, use ceramic, but if you have more stubborn, coarse hair, use titanium.” Essentially, titanium plates will heat faster and require fewer passes to achieve that pin-straight look. The best hair straightener will depend on your hair's thickness, texture, length, and condition.

Titanium is a strong, durable metal best suited for professional salon use on coarse thick, curly and coily hair. These plates typically heat up the quickest and more evenly distribute heat compared to ceramic plates, which allows for fewer passes over the hair, a smoother finish and better results than a ceramic iron, says Foster. However, titanium can cause the most damage to your hair, so you should avoid these if you have fine or damaged hair, according to Hill. If you want a flat iron that will last you a long time, consider this option, which comes recommended by NBC Select editor Lindsay Schneider. “I’ve been straightening my hair since I was 10 and have only ever used two straighteners, including this one that I’ve owned for five years now,” she says.

Meet the experts

We’re testing our current picks against a new group of hair straighteners. We’re testing flat irons from BaBylissPro, GHD, and Paul Mitchell, mini flat irons from Amika and BaBylissPro, and straightening brushes from Amika, Dafni, and Tymo, as well as hot combs from Andis and Gold N Hot. We’re also considering low- and no-heat straightening tools, such as Annie’s Classic Foam Rollers, Caruso’s Molecular Steam Hairsetter, and Remington’s Condition Hair Setter.

And it still works quickly, with only one to two passes needed per section. I use this straightener when I want pin-straight, smooth hair; I reach for it a couple of times a month. Its extra-long swivel cord and overall compact size make it easy to straighten hair in hard-to-reach places like the crown of my head or at the nape of my neck. I’ve also noticed how many hairstylists I’ve seen opt to use Chi models, specifically this one.

She said that she blow-dries her hair on medium heat using a Dyson Airwrap attachment, flat irons it and uses “an old-school pressing comb” to straighten her curly hair. When I began working on the Best Hair Straighteners story, I sought out expert advice from Henry and Erin Bryant, master stylist and creative director of Whip Salon. I then tested 14 popular hair straighteners to separate the wheat from the chaff, or in this case, the must-haves from the mehs and just-oks. The Chi Original Ceramic Hairstyling Iron received top marks for its smoothing and straightening power and speed despite having a comparatively lower price tag than other high-performing models. Out of 14 extensively tested hair straighteners, this no-nonsense Chi model proved to be a standout for its ability to completely transform hair from coily and frizzy to silky and polished—fast. Specifically, it’s a winner because of its all-purpose plate size, even heat and frizz-fighting capabilities.

I assessed how many passes each flat iron required to make my hair straight, smooth, shiny and free of frizz. I also checked how long the effects lasted, looking for frizz after 6 and 12 hours. Over a year later and this Chi straightener remains a powerful, easy-to-maneuver workhorse. The single heat setting easily reshapes my hair from unkempt to sleek and silky.

We spoke with Trefor Evans, the director of research at TRI Princeton, a hair testing and consulting firm; cosmetic chemist Perry Romanowski; and stylist Tippi Shorter, Aveda’s global artistic director for textured hair. We read research papers on heat damage, blog posts about hair destroyed by hair straighteners, plus hundreds of customer reviews of various flat irons. You’re putting your hair in between two super-hot plates, and if it’s not a good iron, you’re likely going over and over the same piece of hair to flatten it. This can all lead to dryness, split ends, dullness (especially if your hair is color-treated), flyaways, and hair breakage. Hair tools take up significant space in your bathroom, so when it comes to flat irons it’s helpful to have one that’s hardworking and can multitask.

I also checked how long the effects lasted, looking for any signs of uneven waviness or frizz after both six and 12 hours. “Tourmaline plates are a step above the ceramic plates when hair type and texture are medium with loose waves and nominal frizz,” says Hill. Tourmaline provides a barrier to excessive heat and, as with most modern heating tools, you can adjust the temperature settings to fit the majority of hair types and textures.

“Any time there’s friction, there’s tugging and snagging and fatiguing of the hair,” said Trefor Evans. For this piece, I tapped experts like Nicole Henry, senior colorist at Warren Tricomi Salon, and Erin Bryant, master stylist and creative director of Whip Salon for what to look for in a hair straightener. “You’re going to want to find one that sets itself apart with features that will make your life easier,” says Bryant. “Maybe you’ll look for one that heats up quickly or is durable, but my favorite flat iron feature has to be a tool that has ceramic-coated plates.

The GVP is still light enough to hold on a daily basis, and the iron’s other features, such as quality plates and a digital display, compensate for the added weight. The cord is 9 feet long, giving you plenty of space to plug it into an outlet that is located far away from a mirror. The straightener itself is 13 inches long, which we found to be the perfect length to wield while styling hair—and the plates are around 3.5 inches long, plenty sufficient to capture a good-size section of hair. All flat irons straighten and curl hair about the same, but the GVP Ceramic Titanium Digital Flat Iron stands out because it heats up quickly and is well-constructed enough to style hair without causing snags or dents. The GVP also includes features that are usually found on higher-end models, like a real-time digital display and accurate temperature, at a midrange price. Ceramic flat irons are excellent at straightening, smoothing, and adding shine at lower temps—but they can also take longer to heat up.

Three of the models we tested—the CHI Pro G2 Digital, the BabylissPro Nano, and the TS-2 Millennium—featured titanium plates. We found that straighteners with ceramic plates held heat just as well as the models with titanium plates. Tool weight and cord length can greatly impact your overall experience in using a flat iron. We also preferred models with warranties (since sometimes the electronics simply burn out) and automatic shutoff features, as it’s dangerous to leave hot plates lying around. That is bad, obviously, and largely irreversible—frizzy and crunchy went out of style in the ’80s. The problem is that the maximum temperatures that hair can endure before developing damage varies by hair type and, really, by individual.

Lighter and more compact: Rusk W8less Professional Ceramic and Tourmaline Str8 Iron

It heats up as quickly and is about as light as the rest of the straighteners we tried, and the casing never snagged our hair. The 9-foot-long cord means you won’t have to lurk near a power outlet, and its auto-shutoff feature keeps your home and belongings safe. The casing is solid black, and the design is simple and straightforward, but it doesn’t look or feel cheap. I tested dozens of hair straighteners and found the top models to be from Chi and GHD. Two criteria—material and plate size—were noted in detail but not considered in the ultimate rating.

“You can get a $20 flat iron, and maybe it works for a couple of months, and then it breaks, and that’s because they’re using cheap electronics,” he said. She’s also learned to distrust the temperature settings on inexpensive devices. “They get hot so quickly that they must be hotter than the guide is telling me they are,” she said.

The best hair straighteners can withstand even the steamiest weather and the most unfortunate of hair days—without frying hair in the process. Styling takes time, and flat irons can be a financial investment, so you want to be sure you’re choosing the right one. After extensively testing factors such as maneuverability, performance and temperature range—and re-evaluating over the course of a year—I landed on the top models on the market. I chose the T3 SinglePass StyleMax as the best overall for its excellent straightening and smoothing power. As you begin your search for your next flat iron, you’ll notice that there are several plate materials available—ultimately impacting how fast the iron heats up and how the tool works to straighten each strand.

When I first put this straightener to work, it heated up in just 20 seconds. I sectioned my hair into one-inch pieces, glided the iron through my hair from root to tip, and it went from frizzy to smooth and polished. Despite having just one heat setting of 392 degrees, the temperature was enough to reshape my hair in just one pass, although I did have to do two passes on the layers around my face.

Compared to other flat irons I tested, I found the Chi flat iron to be a fast working, incredibly effective hair straightener that cut out frizz for a fraction of the price of other high end hot tools. For $80 it performed well if not better than many $200 and up alternatives. If you’re someone who likes having the option to create silky straight styles, flips or beach waves, this iron can do it all. However, if you’re looking for more temperature variability—and a little bit higher heat—you’ll be better served by the Harry Josh Pro Tools Ceramic Flat Styling Iron. Picking a hair straightener is a personal choice and largely depends on your hair type and styling desires.

Still, it ranked best in almost all categories, including fully straightening hair and keeping it sleek and frizz-free all day. It also got perfect marks from testers for gliding smoothly through hair and being easy to use, with all commenting on the "noticeable shine" in just one pass. "I really like how fast I was able to style my hair," said one tester, with another saying, "I would buy this product in a heartbeat." To help you find the best flat iron for your hair type, we spoke to experts and hairstylists about what to know about flat irons and how to protect your hair from heat damage. Set your sights on a flatiron with ceramic plates, says Lacy Redway, Unilever stylist and celebrity hair artist. Like our runner-up pick, the Rusk W8less, this straightener has a temperature dial, which goes from 165 °F up to 455 °F in 10-degree increments.

The temperature, which is adjustable, works well for his clients, and he prefers the brand’s ceramic plates over titanium because it offers a better “pull” on the hair, making it easier to style. If you place your hand at the bottom of the iron while the plates are closed, you risk getting some skin caught in the hinge. The hinge on the Pro G2 Digital is similarly designed—with the plates closed, there’s enough space at the bottom of the device to trap a finger. On most of the other flat irons we tested, however, the hinge placement and width were unnoticeable. Our testers preferred the feel of the glossy finish on the casing of the CHI model to the matte finish of the GVP one, and it was only slightly bulkier than other straighteners we tested. Some claim that titanium plates hold heat better than the standard ceramic plates.

To use this tool, you press the button on the inside of the smart styler, and it heats to 365 degrees. “This standard setting is the ‘sweet spot’ where the heat can break down the hair just enough to mold it into shape and fight frizz without burning it or causing damage,” says Henry. I tested 22 flat irons over the course of a year to find the very best hair straighteners on the ... It’s unlikely that using chemical hair straighteners once or twice will cause cancer. The plaintiffs with the highest chance of success in this sort of case will be people who used these products frequently over a long period of time.

Another perk to this iron’s ceramic plates is the beveled edges and rounded barrel. Together, they make it easy to not only create sleek styles, but also to make a bend or flip at the end of hair or beachy waves. As someone who hasn’t had a ton of practice creating flat-iron waves, the Chi helped me look like a pro.

How much money you spend on a hair straightener definitely comes down to preference. Expensive hair tools aren’t necessarily “better;” they often just have more accessories and controls—basically, the difference between a five- and three-star hotel. If you want a tool with unique features (like cordless, “smart” technology, copper and ion-infused plates, etc.), you can expect to pay a bit more. All of these will straighten your hair, but the type of plates on the iron you choose should align with your hair type and goals. When in doubt, a tourmaline or copper iron can work for most all hair types, while titanium should be reserved for hair that is hard to straighten. Meanwhile, titanium plates heat up very quickly and can reach higher temperatures than ceramic irons, which is why they’re recommended for thick and curly hair that requires extra heat to get smooth.

Ceramic flat irons, which have ceramic-coated plates, are the most affordable option out of the three types of hair straighteners, says Bertin. They don’t get as hot as titanium and tourmaline, which makes them “ideal for those with dry, damaged or fine hair,” he says. However, ceramic-coated plates often need to be routinely checked since the coating can wear and chip away — in fact, when the metal beneath (usually aluminum) is exposed, it can cause damage to your hair, says Bertin.

I use to live in SC and I used to visit this restaurant very often. Now that I have moved, I make sure I visit them everytime I visit SC. The food is always fresh, hot and made to order.

Lugoff House Of Pizza & Subs

Looks small from the outside but inside is decently big. The staff was nice and the food was good. We only got pizza because we had kids with us but as we were leaving the waitress was taking someone a bacon cheeseburger and it looked great.

Food and service were good. Place could use a little updating and maybe a hostess feels kind of awkward seating yourself. Paying at table via waitress would be nice as register line can be a bit long and a unwanted step after you have eaten your meal. Went here for lunch yesterday with a co worker, not my first time, but the first time I actually enjoyed something here. Spanakopita is my favorite and if you are in the mood for it they always have it on the menu. My co worker had the hot wings which looked good.

Love to get our favorite. Whether you eat at the restaurant of take out the food is delicious. Like one big family... Best pizza in town and all their food is great. Great service for our group of about 20 friends. The servings are ample and everyone seemed to enjoy their meal choice.

Only these guys can save Domino's pizza franchise. This is the best special meatlovers pizza, I've ever had, and the Souvlaki dishes are childhood memory worthy. Really authenic take on robust Grecian/Italian dishes and delicacies, that I promise you won't disappoint. Plus the menu prices will definitely please palates and wallets.

Restaurant Description

I come here probably at least every other week for the Steak & Cheese sub. This the only thing I order every time. The staff are all so friendly...its a family environment and a lot of locals eat here too.

Food was great except for the cheese fries which were cold. Only one employee wore a mask despite the sign stating masks required at the door. No safe distancing observed and only one way in and out. There is a customer that comes in here Erica Hollis she is so fine... Well, if u ever want to grab a beer, lmk. Miller Lite on the house.

Always have good service and Food here. Pizza was great yesterday. Tina and vege subs very .... If you are passing through the food is good . If so you can walk in and grab one if you want to see a menu online they have a Facebook page called Steve Lhop. They have photos of the menu.

The chicken was doable. I just put the chicken on my salad for a chicken salad. This meal was to starchy with rice, bread, and crackers. The meal was not seasoned, was not worth $11.25. I will stick to my usual a super sub. Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network.

My only complaint and why I gave only four stars was the service was a little lacking. Will be going back for the spanakopita again though. They have great cheese steak subsThe special is great ! The bread is always so perfectly crispyService is great quick turnaround.Great selection. Consistently on point. One of those great hole in the wall places. We have enjoyed both visits here.
